RICE COOKER METHOD

The easiest, most hands-off method.

Sticky Rice Varieties
1 cup rice : 1¼ cups water

Long-Grain White Rice Varieties
1 cup rice : 1½ cups water

How to cook

  1. Rinse the rice 2–3 times in cool water.
  2. Drain well.
  3. Add the rice and its measured water to your rice cooker.
  4. Start the regular rice cycle.
  5. When the cycle finishes, leave the lid closed for 10 minutes.
  6. Gently fluff or fold the rice before serving.

Why it works

A rice cooker does the temperature management for you.

As the water heats, it penetrates the grain and the starch begins to gelatinize. While free water remains in the pot, the temperature stays close to the boiling point of water.

Once most of that water has been absorbed or evaporated, the temperature begins to rise. A basic rice cooker senses that change and switches from cooking to warming.

That final rest matters.

The grains are still redistributing moisture after the heat switches off. Give them a few minutes before opening the lid and you get a more even texture from surface to center.
